Hi forumistas,
So what do you think about Stephenie Meyer refusing to publish her latest book after her rough draft was leaked?
Diva or author thwarted? Chime in on my blog (link below).

She's upset and stubborn in my opinion.  For some reason I just don't feel bad for her, probably because she's not telling her readers, "Don't read the rough draft if you don't want spoilers."  She posts the link on her site for everyone to read.

I think it's ridiculous. People's creative stuff get leaked all the time. She should think of all the music and movies that are always stolen off from the internet.

People will always want to have the hard copy book in their hands. If my works was leaked, yeah, I'd be upset, but I wouldn't stop the publication of my book! I'd just make sure to be careful next time or make sure whoever handles my manuscript does so with more care, etc, etc. O_O

Honestly, it's her book and no one else's business. Whoever leaked this is, at best, a piece of dirt, and Meyer has every right to do whatever she likes with her own book.

I agree that it's her book and she can do what she wants with it (assuming that innocent third parties aren't taking real financial losses as a result), but this whole affair has reminded me of a rumor I'd heard back in 1979: a story treatment for a sequel to Star Wars had been stolen and it revealed that Darth Vader was actually Luke's father. I wonder if George Lucas ever considered walking away from the entire franchise because a wild-fire rumor was going to spoil The Empire Strikes Back's big reveal.

Well she isn't refusing to publish it, she only stated that it was put on
hold indefinitely so she can take a break, and work on some other books for now.
So its not officially canceled. I have to say though I don't blame her, because she has a lot of pressure put on her it seems, and, she's really busy nodadays. I think that if I were in her position, and famous out of nowhere without trying to be, with all that pressure on me, I would take a break too and work on another story of mine.

Although I don't agree with the fact she posted everything that was leaked on her site...I kinda wish she didn't.
I'm a fan of hers, and I don't feel right reading it. And I don't think it'll help anyone forget about this any time soon.
Personally I would not have done that. I would have taken a break, worked on other things, then started working on it again when the whole fandom calmed down and stopped talking about it. But, ultimately, it is her decision and business.

Hey, it can spark further sales for her... AND why not tweak it at this point? Plus most of her fans, even if they read the leaked version will want to have "hard" copies of the actual book like they do the others so they can read it over and over... Diva? Perhaps. Being calculating? Mabye? We don't really know what's going on in her head... it could be part of a larger scheme to keep things rolling? Who really knows...

Lucas couldn't walk away, and there's a difference between a rumor and a script.  Had the actual script been leaked, my guess is considerable rewriting would have been done before teh movie was released.  But in any case, you can't walk away when so many millions have already been invested.  All Meyer is walking away from is an unfinished book.

On another writer's website, members there are suggesting it was a publicity stunt. I for one don't think so and feel bad for Ms. Meyer and her fans. They were all wronged in my book.

As I stated previously in this forum, this sounds like a publicity stunt to me. I mean really, who is she punishing?  What's the purpose, other than to stir up more buzz, though I must admit I can't see why her handlers would think she needs more.

I think that she should just finish i tup and get it published. And if it was a publicity stunt, all that means is that she's putting a hold on her story and the only person she's hurting is herself. That's just plain stupid.
